About Shamil

I started as a biology student at the Lomonosov Moscow State Univerity, where I’ve got a BSc and an MSc in Virology. During my bachelor, I’ve worked in the wet lab studying virus-like particles from plant virus coat proteins. In my master, I’ve decided to shift to bioinformatics and started to learn programming. My new lab studied human retroelements and I was able to participate in the development of software to process sequencing data and filter new retroelement insertions. I’ve also completed a retraining course at Bioinformatics Institute (and I’ve actually learned about the PROTrEIN program because of it!).

I like fiction (especially science fiction) in all forms – books, films, games (in that order). I also love listening to music, mostly progressive and avant-garde metal. My most long-lasted hobby is Magic the Gathering (been playing for more than 10 years, have no addiction, can recommend it to anyone).

I eat almost anything but I prefer anything with seafood more. I also like beer (usually dark) and enjoy tasting new beer flavors.
